Y’know with the 305 TPI. If you must you can swap out the 305 for something more powerful.

LT4/6spd with the 1LE suspension and fat sticky tires.

Subtlety? Nah.

I’d go 383 stroker with a good after market fuel injection setup. That keeps everything simple and looking original while producing over 400hp.

I’d do an LS7, if it’d fit.

LS7 I understand doesnt hold up to boost as well.

maybe not those exact rims, but you get the idea. Maybe try and fit 30's. Realistically, I would be happy with a good clean stock one, preferably a slick top in forest green.

Swap in a LS1 with a Z06 cam and long tube headers, and a Holley Hi-Ram EFI intake. Swap in a T56 and QA1 suspension kit. Paint it Cortez Silver. And before I forget a Baer big brake kit.

Switch out the 305 for an Iron Duke

Well if keeping the old 305 as a base, the main thing you need to do is replace the heads, they are the big choke point on these cars. So a matched cam and heads with a set of headers and the thing will be night and day better. Also the Holley still makes the stealth ram intake to replace the tuned port setup and those are the best intakes for these cars. You can do the SLP runners that were popular when the cars were new. Then swap the 700R4 or 5 speed for a T56. the 700R was a touchy transmission and the T5 was junk.

In dream world a LS swap, 5.3 iron block, TSP heads and 224R cam on a 112 LSA.

Though with a LS swap a rear end swap is almost a must do. They are the glass jaw of the entire drivetrain. They were barley strong enough to handle the 305

ICE9-style build. Brutally minimalist but damn effective at autocross and track days.

My brother is saving to buy one of these right now and I’ve been helping him plan out what he wants to do. I think he’s gonna do a 350 and 6-speed out of a 4th gen Camaro with a nice MagnaFlow exhaust. Fatter tires, lowered a little bit with 4-wheel discs and a posi-trac rear. Wants it to be blue with the white iroc stripe package. Not insane, but should shimmy down the road pretty well.

Infinite budget? Take a ratted out twin turbo V12 Mercedes and swap over the whole power train, wiring, and necessary modules. Make some mods here and there, try to push 700whp. Full performance aftermarket suspension and brakes, sub frame connectors.

Just because LS swaps put me to sleep.

Modern LS motor with a 6 speed, some bigger wheels, some better brakes, projector headlights, otherwise stock.

I like TPI; it’s cool looking. That said, it just cost too much to get decent power out of one if you want to stay with the OG EFI. In this case I’d swap in a gen II LT1 (like 93-97 Fbodies). You can use all of your existing mounting points such as the transmission and engine mounts. You can also reuse your fuel pump/lines, radiatior, y-pipe, ect ect. It’s very budget friendly to go LT1. I just picked up one WITH a T56 attached for $1,200.

Full bolt on 6spd LT1 cars will do around 300rwhp. Add a cam and you can do around 330rwhp. Ported head and cam cars (AI, Lloyd Elliot) routinely knock down 375-400rwhp with a factory short block.

The optispark isn’t as bad as everyone makes it sound, but if it troubles you that much, you can convert it to an LSX style coil-on-plug set up. I wouldn’t though.. I’d throw in a fresh vented opti and call it a day.

I’m currently doing an LT1/T56 swap on a 1980 Firebird Formula and own a ‘98 Z28 (LS1 FTW!!!)

It’s just to easy to swap in an LT1 and make power to ignore them.

Go completely trollish with the build.

The one staying in the GM family is... can I start with an Iron Duke Camaro? If not, swap an Iron Duke in... but a built one. Cosworth DBA head, Super Duty 4 3.2 liter bottom end. I’m seeing numbers saying 375 hp for a SD4 3.0 with a DBA head, and 330 hp for a SD4 3.2. Yeah, this could actually be interesting.

The other way to go is... 2UR-FSE, complete with a Toyota L110F gearbox. All-wheel-drive hybrid Camaro, with 438 system hp.

Better brakes, weight reduction, get rid of the A/C, better clutch, better flywheel, better tires/wheels. That would be a start before going after the engine, suspension, etc.

did I mention weight reduction?

Having owned a very tired 305 auto 3rd gen, it needs more power, lots more. LS swap for sure, six speed, upgraded suspension is a must as well. Beyond that, I would keep it mostly stock looking, much like the one above, except add louvers, gotta have louvers (mine did and it was my favorite thing about that car).

Replace engine with twin-turbo 4-rotor because fuck brand purity.

Remove hood “for weight reduction”, also to increase visibility of said heretic motor transplant. Point turbo downpipes straight up toward heaven.

Paint the exterior Safety Cone Orange.

Massive front splitter and GT wing for mad downforce.

Drive up in the car show like “I got a big BRAPBRAPBRAPBRAPBRAPBRAP”.
